Slay Doubt Challenge - Chapter 11 Reflections

Slay Doubt by Detola Amure Focus and Endurance "... firstly, realise that not every idea that is good is from God. There are good ideas and there are God ideas. To discover which ones are from God and not what has come from your flesh, or what everyone else is doing or saying or the most popular option out there, take all the options back to God, the key stakeholder in your project, and ask Him what idea you need to focus on right now." Our calling is bigger than us - it feeds into God's bigger picture. We all have our unique and individual race in life we're running and so we must ensure we stay in our lane. To focus means to have a point of concentration.  Detola advised that to stay focused, there needs to be an understanding of what is key  in any season. She explained that in trying to do this, many wonderful ideas will come. We need to identify where these ideas come from, God or another source. This is because not all ideas are God ideas, some seeming grand ide...

Slay Doubt Challenge - Chapter 10 Reflections

Slay Doubt by Detola Amure Evening guys Hope you've had a splendid start to the week. The weather may not be great at the minute, but I'm thankful for the opportunity to write and share my thoughts with you. Today I continue my reflections from Slay Doubt by Detola Amure. You can get your copy here - Slay Doubt. Are you being selfish? "Many of us are so concerned about our reputation, or about what others think, or about being ridiculed or rejected, or about making a mistake in public that we would rather hide and live miserably than step into our calling." This chapter examined selfishness and how it plays out in our lives when we're not slaying doubt. In the book, Detola listed out some definitions of what it means to be selfish. Webster's Dictionary of American English defines being selfish as ' r egarding one's own interest chiefly or soley; influenced in actions by a view to private advantage.' This is instructive. In the earlier chapters, we ...

Hey guys

Hey guys It's been a long weekend and I have to tell you, I've struggled to write not because I have nothing to write about, but it's because I've not been sleeping well. I hope you don't mind. Tomorrow I'll continue with my reflections from the Slay Doubt Challenge, only 6 chapters to go. See you tomorrow. Slay Doubt Challenge - Chapter 9 Reflections

Slay Doubt by Detola Amure Do as Instructed "One thing that can cause us to doubt is not being sure of what to do or being confused about the daily action steps you should be taking to fulfill your unique assignment and live out God's calling over your life. You are a spirit; you have a soul that lives in your body. The correct order is for instruction to flow from your spirit to your soul and then to your body. They should always be in alignment." Besides all the other things highlighted in the chapter, one thing stood out for me. It is that in fulfilling the assignment God has given me; I need to be careful to make sure I'm following God's pattern and specific instructions, not the well-meaning guidance of well-wishers because it could have consequences I'm not prepared to shoulder or even bare. Some other reflections from this chapter include the following. Whatever I'm doing must align with what God has told me, not what someone else thinks I should be...

Slay Doubt Challenge - Chapter 8 Reflections

We've reached Chapter 8 of Slay Doubt, can you believe it?  Phew, what a journey it's been for me, I'm hoping you've gleaned something of value or better yet, picked up a copy of the book. It is such a power-packed book and I'm so grateful to Detola for writing this book. Embrace Your Unique Project Sometimes, you need to be discreet about what God is sharing with you. It is not everything God tells you, that you need to share, except God permits you to. A lot of projects, dreams, and visions have been prematurely aborted because they were shared with the wrong people. Being discreet and discerning is key when it comes to confidently manifesting God’s calling on your life. This statement carries so much weight. I've seen it play out in my life. Sometimes when you open up prematurely or to the wrong person, it can abort the dream.  I remember many years ago I expressed a desire to do something in line with one of my passions. A statement uttered carelessly quench...

Slay Doubt Challenge - Chapter 7 Reflections

Welcome back :) It is such an amazing day today; I hope you got the chance to bask in the sunshine, even if for a few quick moments. Let's continue with my reflections from Detola Amure's book, Slay Doubt. Enjoy your preparation season This chapter examines the preparation we need to go through as we wait for opportunities to show up. Here are some points that stood out to me during the live review of this chapter. Detola helped me understand the need and importance of preparation. She advised that the opportunities I've been waiting on will surely come and then the preparation will speak. This led to a deeper conversation on what it means in this context to prepare. Detola highlighted some key areas to focus on. Attitude. Attitude is almost everything. This is something I'd heard previously, but hearing it mentioned again pushed me to do a quick mental scan of how I've been showing up regarding my attitude. I quickly realised that I've not always been the best...

Slay Doubt Challenge - Chapter 6 Reflections

Hello all Today we continue with my reflections from Slay Doubt by Detola Amure. Navigating your past We live in a fallen world where bad things happen. God never promised us that our lives would be easy, but He promised to always be there with us. He wants to turn your pain around for your good and for His glory, if you will let him. This chapter delved into how past events affect our lives. Detola encourages that we change our perspective to that of God's because God can and does use all our experiences ultimately for our good. It was an excellent reminder that I can either remain bitter about past events or let God use those same events to shape my future. It also made me check my heart to see if I'd truly forgiven and released the pain of past events from my heart. You are welcome

Hello  If you're new to this blog, thank you so much for stopping by.  I started this blog to develop my writing skills and document my transformation journey. I share my reflections on books I've read or am reading, music, poetry and faith.  I hope you will find something of value on this blog that will encourage you to start your own journey or continue to persist.  With investing in yourself, there's absolutely no time like the present. Over the last few days, I've been sharing my reflections from a 15-day Facebook live challenge I took part in back in April. Detola Amure, author of  Slay Doubt !: How to recognise and confidently manifest God’s calling on your life , facilitated the challenge. You can check it out here on amazon. To keep things simple, I will continue my reflections on the next post. Slay Doubt Challenge - Chapter 5 Reflections

Slay Doubt by Detola Amure Invest in your calling. Many of us are waiting on God to do something, but God is waiting on us to prepare for the journey ahead. We do this by investing in ourselves. What does it mean to invest in yourself? It means to educate yourself continually, especially in the areas of personal growth, your skills and your craft. The day you stop investing in yourself is the day you begin to die. If you don’t invest in yourself, no one else will, and the truth is most people will only invest their time and resources in you when they see that you are investing in yourself. This was such a great chapter to read. Detola helped us understand the value of investing, in whatever way, in the vision/calling. As I went through the live class, I mentally reviewed my progress over the years and could identify how a lack of investment in my calling has delayed growth in specific areas of my life. As sobering as that was, it showed me I'm now on the right path, having taken st...

Slay Doubt Challenge - Chapter 4 Reflections (pt 2)

Good evening all Hope you had a splendid day today.  Today I continue with my reflections from the Slay Doubt challenge based on  Slay Doubt book by Detola Amure .  Your calling feeds into God's agenda...  Your calling fits into a bigger picture…  Your calling is bigger than you…  Your calling is not about you…  Your calling is about what God wants to achieve on this earth… Your calling is about declaring God's greatness on the earth… It made me realise that in my quest to fulfil the assignment, I'd made it all about me. My calling, my talent, my purpose, my time, me, me, me. Whilst I am the vessel, the assignment fits into a purpose that is much higher than me. God's plan. I am a vessel God has chosen to use to fit into His plan, the plan to make His Name known on the earth, to bring people into His kingdom, bringing glory to Him. It is a privilege to be part of His plan and the minute I think it is about me, an easy to do, is when the assignment beco...

Slay Doubt Challenge - Chapter 4 Reflections (pt 1)

Before I get into my reflections on this chapter, I'd like to encourage somebody out there who feel like they have nothing to offer.  God loves YOU. God chose YOU. YOU are needed. I encourage you to read the words of King David, written many years ago but still so relevant today.  You Know All About Me For the Pure and Shining One King David’s poetic song 1 Lord, you know everything there is to know about me. 2 You perceive every movement of my heart and soul, and you understand my every thought before it even enters my mind. 3-4 You are so intimately aware of me, Lord. You read my heart like an open book and you know all the words I’m about to speak before I even start a sentence! You know every step I will take before my journey even begins. 5 You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. With your hand of love upon my life, you impart a blessing to me. 6 This is just too wonderful, deep, and incompr...

Thankful Saturday

Happy weekend I'm sat at my desk staring out the window, wondering when the sun will come out to play and trying to motivate myself to do my weekend workout. The weather may not be great but I am thankful for what we may class as insignificant, like the amazing black coffee I had this morning and my nice comfy bed to lie in :) Who doesn't like a good lie-in? These minor things are easily overlooked, but I'm training myself to find things in my day to be grateful for. It makes such a vast difference. So what are you grateful for today? Drop me a line. Slay Doubt Challenge - Chapter 3 Reflections

Slay Doubt by Detola Amure  Every child of God has been called to influence a sphere of society, to bring transformation through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Your assignment, the problem that you are called to solve, may fall into one or more of these mountains of influence or spheres of society. It is not about the number of people you are called to, but about recognising your calling and your area of influence. This chapter was straight to the point for me.  It reminded me about the need to identify and understand the spheres of society I've been called to serve. You may know them as the 7 mountains of influence. They are: Business Arts & Entertainment Education Government Media Religion Families. This chapter was a reminder to re-examine what I believe to be my spheres of society and begin taking steps to influence them for the kingdom of God.  If you want to read more about these areas of influence alongside Detola's book, I recommend  The 7 Mountains of Influ...

Slay Doubt Challenge - Chapter 2 Reflections

Slay Doubt!: How to recognise and confidently manifest God’s calling on your life by Detola Amure Your calling is relevant. Doubting that you have been called, often comes from thinking that you have nothing to offer, or that what you have to offer is not relevant.  Wow.  This was another liberating chapter for me.  Having reinforced the point that I have something to offer, notwithstanding the noise out there in the world, brought so much peace to my heart. Those close to me know how much anxiety I've experienced learning to trust, believe and step into what I believe God, the creator of the universe and everything I know shaped me to be. And why? I believed wrongly that since others had already gone ahead of me, I couldn't possibly offer anything more.  Until fairly recently, it had become relatively easy and routine to disqualify myself and my desires. I'd hear myself say things like: I can't do it because so and so are already doing it I'm not good enough I'...

Slay Doubt Challenge - Chapter 1 Reflections

Slay Doubt!: How to recognise and confidently manifest God’s calling on your life by Detola Amure Before you can confidently manifest God’s calling on your life, you need to recognise what it is. Some people see their calling as their vocation or job, but your calling is much more than that. A calling according to the Bible means an invitation. God's call is the purpose for which you exist. It is the reason why you were created. It is God's mandate for your life…His assignment for you to do on earth.  This is such a loaded chapter. It highlights a very poignant point.  We've all been created with not just a general calling to bring glory to God, but also with a specific calling. During the daily live broadcast on Facebook, I remember the sudden realisation that the assignment I have on the earth is not about me but about God's ultimate plan. Sounds simple, right? But that awareness, although not new, has liberated me so much.  I realised that along the way I'd lost ...

Reflections from "Slay Doubt" by Detola Amure

Hey there In late April, I took part in a 15-day challenge put together by Detola Amure, author of the book " Slay Doubt!: How to recognise and confidently manifest God’s calling on your life ". The book is specifically written for women and teaches how to slay doubt and confidently manifest God's call on your life. The book and the challenge impacted me so much I had to buy copies for my younger sisters. Right from the very first chapter, it felt like the lights were being turned on in my heart, almost like the book was answering unasked questions in my heart. Over the next 15-days, I'll post a short reflection from the challenge, but I encourage you to check out Detola's book See you tomorrow. I'm back

Hello It has been a long, long while since last my blog post, almost a year, in fact 🙈😞 I starting blogging to help me develop a consistent writing habit. My plan was to write every day for 90 days, but I've fallen short of that goal several times now. The old Esther would have packed up shop thinking, maybe this isn't for me, but I've learned and understood that failure is necessary on the path to success and therefore I want to state that I'm still committed to this process. Starting tomorrow, I will be posting my reflections and the learning I picked up from a 15-day challenge I took part in on how to slay doubt in all areas of life. Thanks for stopping by.
